Petronas says Singapore grants conditional approval for regional power corridor
Petronas says Singapore grants conditional approval for regional power corridor Oct 26 (Reuters) - Singapore's Energy Market Authority has granted conditional approval for a proposed project to import renewable electricity from Vietnam via Malaysia, Malaysia's state energy firm Petronas IPO-PETO.KL said on Monday.
The Vietnam-Malaysia-Singapore initiative aims to import up to 1.3 gigawatts of renewable electricity into Singapore through a regional power corridor linking the three countries
The project is being developed by a consortium comprising PetroVietnam Technical Services and a unit of Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries SCIL.SI, alongside the MY Energy consortium, which comprises Tenaga Nasional TENA.KL and Petronas
Renewable electricity generated from offshore wind resources in Vietnam would be transmitted through Malaysia and supplied to both Malaysia and Singapore, with imports expected to commence in 2035, according to Petronas
The conditional approval allows the consortiums to advance to the next stage of development, subject to further regulatory and project approvals
