It’s a busy results season and keeping up with market-moving news has been essential, especially in these volatile conditions. But with hundreds of news items published each day, finding the most relevant updates can be time consuming.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce enhanced news filtering, designed to help you quickly and easily find the most impactful news.

Introducing the News feed

We now have a dedicated page for viewing all recent news - the News feed. Here you can find a collection of news with selections to show the news from today or the last 7 days, filtered for the markets in your focus mode or your folio holdings. But that’s not the only thing you can filter for.

More control over your news feed

You can now filter UK Regulatory news items by their category, making it easier to focus on the types of news that matter most to you.

From our testing, we heard that you wanted different sets of filters for when looking at news for your markets or you folios within the News feed, when analysing a single StockReport and when checking through your Folio. To facilitate this, each of the different news views has been assigned separate saved settings. As you adjust your settings, your preferences are saved automatically ready for when you next access news in that area.

We have suggested some defaults to get your started, but feel free to tailor these to your preferences.

Get market context of the announcement with price change on the day

How the markets react to the news can provide a good indicator as to whether it has improved or worsened market expectations for the company. As Ed’s recent study showed, in some cases a positive market reaction can signal future upwards drift in share price. To help you assess the impact of news on stock performance, we now display the price change of a stock on the day the news item was published.

Smoother reading experience

When clicking on news items you will notice that these now open in a bottom sheet, giving more space for the article than was previously available, especially for desktop. To close this simply click on the X in the top right or anywhere outside the article.

We hope these enhancements help make it easier to navigate this busy period, with less time spent searching for key news and more time reading it. Stay tuned for more improvements, and as always - safe investing!

The News tab should show news on non UK companies, as before. Taking this away is a very backward move - it diminishes the value of the service and brings into question the value of paying a subscription for multiple regions.

This seems like a great feature until I discover that the feature does not fully extend to my subscribed region, Australasia. Specifically the only filter available to me is the Timeframe filter, but NOT the News Types filter. VERY DISAPPOINTING! Is there an approximate date for when the full feature will be available to all?

Hi Oliver - thanks for this clarification. Sorry to be stupid, but I don’t understand how I can access to do this saving like you suggest. I’ve had a look and just can’t work it out - is there an idiots guide for folk like me please?

If you go into one of your folios, click on News, near the top, it should then display any items, on the left you should see all the filter options, just amend those and they should save.

I think this works reasonable well on the Today screen, however there is one issue, if the news item tags more than one stock, it is listed as "many" and this won't be listed under your folios. For example Bloomsbury Publishing (LON:BMY) today, the item also had FTSE250 tagged, therefore this is not shown as a BMY news item, just as "many". This is a change from before.

Also l'm not keen this on the Stockreport screen, why say "no news" when there is?

3i (LON:III) reported an update today, but this is missing on Stocko news, you can only see comments about it, if you have Reuters selected but where is the RNS?

Your settings will save as you change them, you do not need to click as 'save' button for them to be remembered.

News should now be showing again in the 'Latest News' section of the StockReport - if not visible, please refresh your page. Sorry again for the initial error.

As noted in an earlier comment, the removal of news here was not intentional.

It has now been resolved, you should see news again. Sorry for the previous error.

Oliver, yes there are back now but some of these items are missing, if you click on News on the Stockreport, see 3i (LON:III) the 7am RNS is missing.

This is also missing under News on the Today screen.

It could be that some news is being removed due to your filters. If you wish to see all news, simply ensure all types are ticked (you can quickly do this by selecting 'UK Regulatory News' & 'Global Reuters News')

Why would a trading RNS be filtered out anyway?

If l have to tick everything the it defeats the whole object?

OK, l did have not 'other' ticked. Think this is very dangerous.

This should have been filed under Trading updates, not other.

I don't want to see all news, there is far too much rubbish, but l want to see the important news. That is the whole point of filtering?

This could have been a very useful addition, however in practice it seems quite poor. I cannot change my news feed criteria most of the time, the tab does not accept a click.

Hi Rusty2, I agree with your comments and I'm not impressed with the changes to the News Feed. I wasn't aware of the 3i Trading Update until you mentioned it, many thanks for bringing 3i to my attention. I have ticked all the boxes as Oliver has suggested which shows 1,600 News Articles (which I'm not interested in) but only 11 News Articles appear for my 'Portfolio'. However, none of the 11 shares in the News Feed are in my Portfolio. Having ticked every box, 3i still doesn't appear in Portfolio News even though I've held 3i for many years.

At least the old News Feed worked for me. My view is that Stockopedia has broken the News Feed system. How do I get the 3i Trading Update to appear when I've ticked all the boxes and it still doesn't appear??

I had that problem, thought they were all ticked but on my screen, there are some hidden ones.

Seems the DSMR report today missed 3i (LON:III) as well.

I also missed the Niox (LON:NIOX) announcement.

lt seems l'm going to have to have most of them ticked.

I'm now getting news from stocks l have never heard of, some are German, they are not in my folios.

Hi Oliver,

I know I have mentioned this before and so have others in comments but the 'many' is not working consistently for example today Asos (LON:ASC) at 8.17am says many but only mentions ASOS in the news...I'm sure there are teething problems but this never happened in the old new.

A few other things I've noticed, the news pop up doesn't work well on ipad, it fills the screen then I cannot exit the news story, so have to go back.

Also can it be fixed so we can set to either My folio as the old version did, now I have to change it every time I go in and out of the main page.

Lastly the previous news page would at least try to update itself if I hadn't used stockopedia for a while now it stays static to the last time I used it unless I refresh the screen.

Sorry if it seems like a moan but as you can imagine it is slightly frustrating.

hi Oliver, I seem to have to refresh the page every time to get the news feed up dated, is there any way that the feed automatically updates as the news come in?

The column widths need finessing. The 3 on the right are currently allocated more than is necessary - no need for "Price". "Chg on day" will do. That would enable Company and Announcements to be wider, showing the core information.
Any chance last selection between Market / Folios could be made sticky?

I receive News alerts by email. In the past you would click on the 'Read Full Story' button and this would take you directly to viewing the relevant news article. Now it takes you to to the stock report with the full news feed filter list showing. You then have to find the relevant article of interest within the list which may or may not show depending on filters and then click again to open. This seems a step back. Can this feature be restored that if you click on an email alert for a particular news item it simply takes you to show that News item without having to do further clicks to find it. Thanks.

On Safari I don't seem to get the blurring but the text is ridiculously small.
