Skeljungur hf OB is an Icelandic oil importing company whose activities span a range of retail, service and financial operations. The Company has a network of 69 retail stations and 15 oil depots all over Iceland. By its service agreement with Shell International consortium, Skeljungur is guaranteed the rights to use the Shell trademark in Iceland and access to any new developments in products and technology from Shell. Shell and Icelandic New Energy have together built the Hydrogen Fuel Station next to the Select service station on Vesturlandsvegur, the main artery to and from Reykjavik. The operation of the Hydrogen Fuel Station and an experimental public transport initiative are part of the ECTOS project (Ecological City Transport System), sponsored by Icelandic New Energy. The project's objective is the research and development of hydrogen use and distribution, its commercial and social effects and its future opportunities to replace fossil fuels in the Icelandic community.
